Upper Extremity Course Descriptions

Module One
Muscle Site Evaluation
Contact Hour Cost: $25
Contact Hour: 1.5 ABC / 1 AOTA

This course is an introduction to the use of MyoBoy, which is a biofeedback hardware/software to evaluate upper limb loss/deficient patients.  This software will allow the evaluator to determine if a patient is appropriate for a myoelectric prosthesis.  After completion of this module, you will understand the basics of myoelectric muscle site evaluation.

Module Two
Virtual Prosthetic Training
Contact Hour Cost: $35
Contact Hour: 2 ABC / 2 AOTA

This course builds upon your knowledge of muscle site evaluation.  You will use MyoBoy to virtually train upper limb loss/deficient patients who will be using myoelectric terminal devices and/or wrist rotators.  After completion of this module, you will understand the importance of virtual prosthetic training to assist with better outcomes.

Module Three
Prosthetic Training (Transradial and Hybrid)

Contact Hour Cost: $65
Contact Hour:  5.5 ABC / 5.5 AOTA

This course transitions you from virtually training your upper limb loss/deficient patient to actual component training and bi-manual functional skills with a transradial or hybrid prosthesis.   Prosthetic treatment begins with controls training, then moves to repetitive drills using different therapeutic activities, and finally on to bi-manual functional task training in a logical sequence.  After completion of this module, you will understand the importance of prosthetic training to assist with better outcomes.

Module Four
Prosthetic Training DynamicArm (Electric Elbow)

Contact Hour Cost: $50
Contact Hour:  3.5 ABC / 3.5 AOTA

With recent advancements in technology this course transitions you from virtually training your upper limb loss/deficient patient to controls training using an electric elbow, the DynamicArm.  You will learn about a new biofeedback software program called ElbowSoft, which will allow the prosthetist to program the arm wirelessly.  Prosthetic treatment begins with controls training, then moves to repetitive drills using different therapeutic activities, and finally on to bi-manual functional task training in a logical sequence.  After completion of this module, you will understand the importance of prosthetic training to assist with better outcomes when working with someone using an electric elbow.
