Ottobock film "Limitless" to debut at ReelAbilities Disabilities Film Festival

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (October 30, 2013) ̶ Ottobock is pleased to announce that its original film "Limitless" will debut at the ReelAbilities Disabilities Film Festival in Minneapolis on Sunday, November 3, 2013.

The film entertains the question, "What would you do when faced with a life-altering injury?" and profiles how one Minnesota woman, Ottobock employee Leslie Pitt Schneider, dealt with limb loss early in her life and how she has since worked to achieve her personal goals and empower other amputees. In an approach counter to storytelling that focuses on extreme endeavors of someone with limb loss, Leslie's story is instead one that is relatable for many as it balances the challenges and complexities of a disability with the many ways success can be measured.

"At Ottobock, creating the Limitless film was really about capturing a unique story that would have meaning and inspiration for others, not necessarily because of Leslie’s achievements, but because she is living the life she chose," says Karen Lundquist, Ottobock's Director of Corporate Communications for North America. "Not everyone will be a super athlete or have the desire for daring expeditions, but many understand the impact on quality of life that comes from sources of support such as family and the medical community. Without proper prosthetic care, Leslie's story may have been very different. Without good rehab and fast access to critical care, her story may have been very different. Without family and friends supporting her and her own drive, her story may have been very different."

The ReelAbilities Film Festival is the largest festival in the country dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of the lives, stories and artistic expressions of people with different disabilities. Initiated in New York in 2007, the festival presents award winning films by and about people with disabilities in multiple locations throughout each hosting city. Post-screening discussions and other engaging programs bring together the community to explore, discuss, embrace, and celebrate the diversity of our shared human experience.

"It is so important for people, friends and family who are coping with or facing limb loss to be able to hear other people’s stories and Ottobock is honored to help achieve that as a major sponsor of the ReelAbilities film festival," says Lundquist. "Although no two experiences are alike, having a sense of what to expect can make all the difference in being more empowered about your own care and what your opportunities are."
