Ottobock enhances its leadership role in upper limb innovation

The high-tech prosthetics company is reinforcing its dedicated team of specialists to deliver enriched customer service.

AUSTIN, Texas, (August 28, 2017) – Ottobock HealthCare, a world-leading supplier of innovative solutions for people with limited mobility, is enhancing its extensive upper limb portfolio with a strong focus on customer service and education.

“Ottobock has been an innovative leader in the field of external powered upper limb prosthetics for more than 60 years,” said Brad Ruhl, President of US Healthcare and NA Prosthetics for Ottobock HealthCare. “We recently announced the acquisition of the bebionic hand from RL Steeper and are more committed than ever in continuing to maintain that leadership position in the market.”

To support the addition of the multi-articulated bebionic hand to its extensive and robust upper limb portfolio–which also includes the Michelangelo Hand with powerful grip capabilities–John Spillar has stepped into his new role as Director of Sales, North America for Upper Limb.

“John is a highly experienced sales and marketing professional, having worked in several areas with Ottobock for more than seven years,” Ruhl shared. “John will lead our team of dedicated upper limb specialists and coordinate their activities, together with our dedicated upper limb professional and clinical services team members, to greatly enhance the support we are able to provide to our customers and their patients as they determine the best possible solution in meeting their needs.”

“I’m excited to work with my team to heighten our upper limb customer support,” Spillar said. “Our commitment to upper limb outcomes has intensified, so we will be adding more trials and educational opportunities for our customers.”

Because patient needs can vary widely, Ottobock offers the broadest selection of available options. “Upper limb patients often need multiple devices, depending on the activities they are involved in,” Ruhl explained. “This may include a combination of external powered devices, body powered devices, and even cosmetic devices. Having all those choices available from one supplier can truly make things more efficient and far more convenient than having to order from multiple sources. Again, this is reflective of our commitment to be the leader in upper limb prosthetics.”
