Ottobock featured in BBC's Click technology program

AUSTIN, Texas (December 7, 2016) – Ottobock is featured in the BBC’s Click technology program honoring International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The BBC report focused on technology that helps people living with a disability. Each segment is authored by someone who has a disability relating to the technology they are evaluating.

The prosthetic segment featured BBC reporter Kathleen Hawkins, who in 2008 contracted meningococcal septicaemia resulting in both legs being amputated below the knee. Hawkins along with Click Reporter/Producer, Jen Copestake visited Ottobock’s North American headquarters in Austin, Texas, to film the segment on the latest advancements in prosthetic technology.

“We’re excited to have the BBC visit our North American headquarters and for Kathleen to use the new multi-purpose Challenger foot,” said Mark Edwards, Ottobock’s North American Director of Professional and Clinical Services.

In addition to experiencing the Challenger foot, Hawkins interviewed Edwards then saw how the X3 microprocessor knee works, and how jogging with a fitness prosthesis like Ottbock’s 3S80 Fitness Knee and 1E91 Runner foot can help people live an active lifestyle.

“Ottobock has been dedicated to helping people maintain or regain their freedom of movement for nearly 100 years, and we are proud to be part of the BBC’s Click program to raise awareness of technology that can help people be more mobile and independent,” said Matt Swiggum, Regional President and CEO of Ottobock North America.
