Myoelectric Speed hands

Holding and grasping objects

Advantages for you

Gripping speed up to 300 mm/s

Quick reflexes

At maximum speed, the prosthetic hand opens about three times as fast as comparable prosthetic hands. With a proportional speed of 300 mm per second, you are able to react quickly while grasping.

Grip stabilisation through integrated sensors

Secure hold

The SensorHand Speed's integrated autograsp feature helps you when an object you are holding starts to slip. The gripping force is increased in fractions of a second until the grasped object is in a safe position again.

Securely grasping delicate objects

Grasping objects

Gain freedom of movement in everyday life, at work, and in your leisure time. You can grasp and hold various objects, regardless of whether they are light or heavy, small or large.

Different sizes

The SensorHand Speed and VariPlus Speed are available in three different sizes – for men and women – so they can be intregrated harmoniously into the body image.

Flexible in application

No matter whether you require a prosthesis that starts at the shoulder, upper arm, or forearm, your prosthetic hand can be combined with various system components so that you can use it to the best advantage in everyday life.

Functionality

Prosthesis training

Prosthetic training will begin once you have been fitted with a prosthesis. The goal of this training is to make it possible for you to use the prosthesis so it helps you in your daily life. At the outset, an occupational therapist helps you practice movement patterns such as eating or getting dressed. With special exercises, you wil learn to position the prosthesis correctly to achieve an optimum position for grasping. Once you are sufficiently confident in using your prosthesis, you will practice controlling your muscle strength. Practice using items like foam rubber, drinking straws, or paper cups will help you determine the various amounts of pressure your muscle contractions can produce and how this affects your grasp and hold of various materials.

FAQ

  • Are suitable prosthetic gloves available for the two prosthetic hands?

Yes, Ottobock offers natural and durable PVC prosthetic gloves in a large selection of colors. Your prosthetist will provide you with detailed information.

  • Can I open the hand mechanically?

If the battery is not charged, you can open the prosthetic hand mechanically as well. Your prosthetist will practice this with you.

  • How long will the battery last?

We recommend charging the battery overnight. It is integrated in the socket and can be removed separately and charged. The battery lasts for one day depending on the activity level and the chosen capacity.

  • Can I type on a computer keyboard with the VariPlus Speed and SensorHand Speed?

While this is of course possible in principle, it does require practice since keyboards are typically operated with the fingers and thumbs.

  • How do I learn how to control the prosthesis with muscle signals?

Training the muscle signals is perhaps comparable to learning an instrument: practicing regularly is very important. If your socket is properly fitted and your musculature is in good condition, you should see major progress after about 3 months of regular practice.

  • How do I control my prosthetic hand?

You control your SensorHand Speed or VariPlus Speed prosthetic hand with the help of myoelectric signals. These signals can be measured on the skin surface as soon as you tense certain forearm muscles. Sensors in the socket called electrodes pick up the signals so that they can be converted and ultimately control the motor that moves the hand. This is how you open and close the hand.
